Creating the Future
Day 22
The plan lost to the priority.
Day 22 — The Shop

Navigating Sidetracks & New Additions

The plan was new products. Then I opened the store on my phone. A detour into mobile navigation, recorded honestly.

Yesterday's plan was simple: add new products. Then I looked at the store the way most people actually see it — on a phone. The plan lost to the priority. Around 75% of visitors browse from mobile, and the mobile navigation wasn't as intuitive as it should be, which meant the store was greeting most of its guests at its most awkward.

So the day went to reorganizing the Icons collection instead: a new sub-navigation by dog size — toy, small, medium, large, giant, plus a spot for the mixes — so finding your own dog takes a moment instead of a scroll.

Eventually I'd love a dedicated landing page for each size. For now I'm staying lean inside Shopify's framework. There are plenty of apps promising endless customization, and most of them charge for it in site speed. I'm sticking with the simple version and saving the bigger customizations for when I can code them myself.

Today I'm back on the original plan, adding products, with future collections taking shape behind them. The detour cost a day. Seeing the store the way three-quarters of its visitors do was worth the day.
