Basset Hound
Basset people nod to each other slowly, in the breed's own tempo — no one in this club is in a hurry. The credentials: the badge in a ring of red rays on heavyweight ring-spun cotton, pigment-dyed to a lived-in softness, cut boxy and slightly cropped, holding its shape either way.

Meet the Basset Hound
The Basset is a French invention, and an old one — “bas” means low, and French hunters bred the great St. Hubert scenting hound down onto short legs so the hunt could proceed at walking pace. The type flourished in the era of Napoleon III, crossed to England in the 1870s, and was among the AKC’s earliest breeds, recognized in 1885.
