The Field Guide

Meet the Cardigan Welsh Corgi

Lore holds the Cardigan's ancestors came to Wales with Celtic settlers thousands of years ago, making it one of Britain's oldest breeds — and the elder of the two corgis by centuries. It drove cattle and minded farms in Cardiganshire for generations. The English Kennel Club declared the two corgis separate breeds in 1934; the first pair had reached America in 1931.
