Akita
To a kid, the Akita is the calm at the center of the house — watchful, unhurried, always there. For the one it watches closest: brushed-soft midweight fleece, a double-lined hood for real warmth, a roomy kangaroo pocket, and a preshrunk fit that stays true through the season.
Materials
A medium-weight 8.0 oz 50/50 cotton-poly blend — ultra-soft, preshrunk fleece that’s cozy against the skin. A spacious kangaroo pocket keeps hands warm, and a twill-taped neck holds its shape. Regular fit, runs true to size; sizes S–XL.
Care
- Machine wash: warm (max 40C or 105F)
- Bleach as needed
- Tumble dry: medium heat
- Do not iron
- Do not dry clean

Meet the Akita
The Akita comes from the mountains of Akita Prefecture in northern Japan, where Matagi hunters used powerful dogs to track and hold bear, boar, and serow. The breed nearly vanished during the Second World War, then came to America with returning servicemen, whose enthusiasm built the American line. The AKC granted full recognition in 1972, in the Working Group.
