Akita
An Akita's loyalty is the old kind, given once and completely. The shirt should hold the same way: substantial 6.0-ounce cotton, garment-dyed after sewing so the color settles into the weave, each one a little different, with a wide rib collar and a fade that deepens over years.

Meet the Akita
The Akita comes from the mountains of Akita Prefecture in northern Japan, where Matagi hunters used powerful dogs to track and hold bear, boar, and serow. The breed nearly vanished during the Second World War, then came to America with returning servicemen, whose enthusiasm built the American line. The AKC granted full recognition in 1972, in the Working Group.
